Do We Need To Have A Wedding Rehearsal?

YES! Let us explain why.

The day before the big day is often a busy one! You’re welcoming guests and family you may not have seen for a long time, packing up your wedding related items, stopping by the florist to make sure your flowers are perfect, and so much more! If there’s one thing you must do, it’s have a wedding rehearsal.

The rehearsal prepares you for the ceremony, which is arguably the most important part of your entire wedding day!

Yes, the party is always fun, but the ceremony is what makes you a married couple. While ceremonies are often short, there’s a rhyme and reason to them and the best way to ensure yours goes perfectly is to practice. Here’s why you must have a wedding rehearsal.

SO EVERYONE KNOWS WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.

Wedding rehearsals ensure everyone knows where they need to be, what they need to do, and when they need to do it. I always tell my couples that it may seem super easy to walk down the aisle but it’s way different when you’re actually doing it! You’re all dressed up, everyone is staring at you, you have to walk a specific way, carry a bouquet of flowers, on top of an emotional and exciting day. It can and often does take a few tries to get the walking speed just right. Practicing the day before makes sure everyone knows their cues and how the ceremony flows.

SO YOUR BRIDAL PARTY CAN LEARN THEIR ROLE.

Bridal party members often have a job to do in the ceremony beyond standing beside you on your special day. The Maid of Honour usually holds the bridal bouquet, and is responsible for making sure the dress is fanned just right. The Best Man often holds onto the rings, and members of the bridal party often sign the marriage license. A rehearsal makes sure that everyone knows their role and their cue.

SO ALL VENDORS CAN BE ON THE SAME PAGE.

Through the ceremony, a number of vendors work together while you’re about to say yes to your person forever. The DJ is cuing the music, the officiant is managing the flow of ceremony, venue staff are locking and unlocking the doors, and your wedding coordinator is watching the time, checking the processional line, and cuing everyone down the aisle. A lot of things are happing at once behind the scenes, and doing a practice run gives all of the vendors you’ve invested time and trust in to make sure their roles are crystal clear.

SO EVERYONE CAN GET USED TO THE CEREMONY SPACE.

You need to rehearse in the same space you’re getting married in! Doing so will help you, your wedding party, and family get acquainted with the space. A little thing called blocking comes into play during a ceremony which is vitally important. Blocking is the action of positioning, movement and placement within a space. Practicing beforehand ensures the spacing between bridal party members is perfect, and any movements such as going from front and centre of the space to the side table to sign the marriage license are done seamlessly on the big day.

SO YOU CAN HAVE CONFIDENCE ON THE BIG DAY.

Weddings are exciting life transitions, and naturally they come with excitement and a bit of nerves. You’ll feel confident and a bit more calm walking down that aisle to your person knowing you’ve practiced before.

Our biggest tip for a seamless rehearsal? Hire a wedding coordinator. We’ll make sure all important parties are in attendance, secure the venue space,  run the rehearsal and be there to cue everyone as you walk down the aisle, and into the next chapter of your life!
